This year’s Day Zero promises to be nothing short of epic, with a new location in the Tulum jungle and as always, a stellar lineup featuring Acid Pauli, Bedouin, Blond:ish, Damian Lazarus, DJ Three, Felix da Housecat, Fur Coat, Metrika, Serge Devant & more. From the press release:
Day Zero has always been a singular entity in the world’s music circuit, establishing itself the day the world was predicted to end instilled it with a delicious sense of spirituality, escapism and abandonment, which continues to pervade the gathering today. It’s amidst this context and the backdrop of Mayan jungles and ruins that Day Zero has witnessed epic nights and sunrises soundtracked by the likes of Massive Attack, Jamie Jones and Trentemøller and career defining closing sets like that of Acid Pauli in 2014 – set to return in 2016.
The Yucatan peninsula is a magical and ancient part of the world, beating to its own rhythm within its cenotes, jungles and beaches. Day Zero has built a community and vibe that harnesses its location’s unique energy, channeling it into one of electronic music’s most potent and profound events.
At dusk Day Zero’s Spiritual Guide Carlos the Reindeer will open proceedings with a special blessing soundtracked by Mexico’s leading sitar player Sidartha Siliceo. Over the course of Day Zero hundreds of individual performers will come together for ceremonies, performance and dancing. Outside the spectacle of the main stage, temporal spaces and performances will encourage discovery and exploration throughout the site’s jungles, waterways, and caves.
For 2016 Day Zero announced a special partnership with visionary event crafters Red Moon, spearheaded by Cirque Du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté. Red Moon’s immersive environments combined with the immaculate Tulum wilderness will combine in an event destination like no other.
In Guy Lailberté’s words, “Damian and I have been becoming close friends over the years and we share a kindred spirit for fun, good times and extraordinary experiences. I have always been impressed with his Crosstown events. They have a special way of bringing tribes together from all over the world and creating magic moments. I am delighted to be involved with Day Zero.”
True to form Secret Production will return to Day Zero and curate the performances and experiences that are not to be missed. Fresh of a successful collaboration on Get Lost LA the immaculate visions of H.O.W.L. (Handle Only With Love) will create a new twist on the visual aesthetics of the event, and long time partner Verboten from New York will be partnering on logistics and bar operation.
January 8 sees Damian Lazarus joined by a legendary cast of comrades as Crosstown Rebels celebrates 13 years as one of the most powerful electronic pioneering forces of this millennium. Musical offerings from the core Rebel sound will include Acid Pauli, Bedouin, Blond:ish, DJ Three, Eduardo Castillo, Felix da Housecat, Fur Coat, LUM, Metrika, and Serge Devant.
“There is a magical and irresistible energy about Tulum that has really affected how I live my life,” said Damian Lazarus. “When you combine amazing music and wonderful people in a place like Tulum, it becomes much more than just another party. Day Zero is a chance to connect with loved ones, re-engage spiritually with the stars and planets, engage in some ancient and primal rituals, and generally experience something you simply can’t find anywhere else. I am profoundly happy to announce our return in 2016.”
Day Zero presents an opportunity for the like-minded to gather, reset, and relearn – a coming together of the world’s best party people and a source of inspiration for the year to come.
